Christmas Pudding Kits are back for another year! Although its traditional to make Christmas Pudding early its doesn’t in fact improve the flavour so you could even if you make it on Christmas Day. But the nature of this pudding means you can prepare it in advance and get the first big cooking session out of the way!
Stir Up Sunday is a tradition which is believed to have started in Victorian times, families would come together to get their fruit puddings stirred up, steamed and stored ahead of Christmas. Each family member would take a turns to give the ingredients a good mix which signalled the start of the festive season. Fruit puddings and cakes were known to be better if they were made in advance and allowed to mature. It is thought that the name Stir Up Sunday comes from The Book of Common Prayer that was read at church on the Sunday before advent which says, ‘stir up, we beseech thee, O Lord’
Here at Secretts we decided to recreate this tradition by bringing you a ‘Stir up Sunday” pudding kit to make with your children. Perfect for your own Christmas Celebration or as a gift. You can download a step by step recipe sheet here. (coming soon)
