Rain? We call that proper pumpkin picking weather! ππ§οΈ
When it comes to pumpkin picking, there’s no denying that sunshine makes for a beautiful day in the patch. But let’s be honest, this is Britain. A little rain, some drizzle, muddy boots and the occasional blustery breeze are all part of the autumn experience.
And do you know what? We think that’s exactly how pumpkin picking in Surrey should be.There’s something weirdly lovely about wandering through rows of pumpkins with rosy cheeks, puddle-ready wellies and that unmistakable smell of autumn in the air. The fields feel that little more seasonal, the pumpkins glow brighter against the grey skies, and every splash through a muddy puddle seems to add to the adventure.
So if the forecast isn’t looking perfect, don’t panic. At Secretts Pumpkin Week, there’s still plenty to enjoy. To help you make the most of your day, we’ve rounded up some tips to ensure you have an absolute blast come rain or shine.
1. Wear Wellies. Seriously.
If there’s one piece of advice we can give, it’s this: wear wellies.
You’ll thank us later. Our pumpkin fields are real working farmland, and after a spot of rain, things can get VERY muddy. Wellies make exploring the patch far more fun and leave you free to focus on finding the perfect pumpkin.
2. Wrap Up Warm
Layers are your best friend during an autumn family day out. Bring a waterproof coat, cosy jumper and clothes you don’t mind getting a little muddy. Some of the best memories are made when nobody is worrying about staying spotless.
3. Pick Your Pumpkins, Then Head Under Cover
Once you’ve chosen your pumpkins from our twelve varieties, why not relax in one of our covered areas and enjoy a well-earned break from the elements?A pumpkin-picking trip isn’t just about the pumpkins. It’s about spending time together and making a day of it – whether it’s laughing at the magic show, braving the haunted house or heading to the activities tent for some undercover fun.
4. Warm Up with Proper Autumn Food
Nothing beats warming up after a stroll around the patch.
Tuck into a bowl of homemade pumpkin soup, enjoy our delicious pumpkin curry, or grab one of Crumpy’s freshly cooked smashed burgers. Pair it with a steaming coffee, hot chocolate or mulled drink and you’ll soon forget all about the weather.
5. Toast Giant Marshmallows Over the Fire
One of the highlights of Pumpkin Week has to be marshmallow toasting. Gather around the fire pits, toast giant marshmallows until they’re perfectly gooey, and soak up that cosy autumn atmosphere. It’s the perfect way to warm chilly fingers and create those classic family memories.
6. Take Refuge in the Haunted House
Rain shower rolling through?
That sounds like the perfect excuse to venture into our Haunted House. Whether you’re brave enough to explore every corner or simply looking for a dry place to hide from the weather, it’s all part of the Halloween fun! It’s worth booking tickets to the Magic Show too – all shows are in our lovely striped vintage tent and include a full half hour of giggles under canvas.
Embrace the British Weather
Let’s face it, pumpkin picking was never meant to happen on a tropical beach!
It’s all about crisp autumn air, muddy boots, cosy food, warming drinks and adventures shared with family and friends. A bit of rain doesn’t ruin the experience. If anything, it makes it feel even more authentic.
So don’t let a few raindrops put you off. Pack your wellies, bring your sense of adventure and join us for a memorable day at one of Surrey’s favourite pumpkin patches.
